Holdings
He held the following in demesne as of free tenement by grant of Henry V when prince by letters patent dated 18 October 1404.
Sutton, 20 messuages, 500 a. land, 20 a. meadow, and 10 a. wood within the forest of Macclesfield, annual value 20 marks, with any profits above this (superplus) rendered to the exchequer in Chester at Michaelmas.
Katherine, queen of England, mother of Henry VI, has taken the issues since John’s death, title unknown. He was formerly seised of the following in demesne as of fee.
Mobberley, an acre of land, annual value 12d., payable at Midsummer and Martinmas equally, held in chief of Richard II as the earl of Chester by knight service.
By deed dated 14 September 1395, he granted the land, without royal licence, to William de Baguley and John Fyton, chaplains, and to their heirs in perpetuity.
He died on 14 October 1427. John de Legh of Booths, junior, his son and heir, is aged 40 and more. He was married by his father to Anne daughter of Roger Leche, knight, on 14 September 1405. They are still married.
