Holdings
He held the following conjointly with Margaret his wife for their lives, with successive remainders to John Fullewode , lately of Tanworth, junior, Joan his wife, and the heirs of their bodies; and to the right heirs of Andrew.
Maxstoke, lands and tenements with buildings, gardens, meadows, moors, woods, and pastures, called ‘le Bartramlond’, held of the prior of Maxstoke , service unknown.
[Dorse:] John Wilmuston, lately vicar of Maxstoke , and Thomas Haytelay , lately of Little Packington, were seised in demesne as of fee of all the lands, tenements, meadows, pastures, rents, and services that were of Andrew Bertram of Maxstoke, and held them of the prior of Maxstoke by fealty and service of 4s. yearly. By charter shown to the jurors, John and Thomas gave these lands and tenements to Andrew and Margaret his wife for life, with successive remainders to John Fullewode , lately of Tanworth, junior, Joan his wife, and the heirs of their bodies; and to the right heirs of Andrew, to hold of the chief lords of the fee by due service. Margaret died, then John and Joan died without heir of their bodies, and Andrew died without heir. The prior of Maxstoke therefore entered the lands and tenements in right of escheat.
