THOMAS SON OF JOHN DE PAR

144 Writ de etate probanda . ‡ 29 October 1427. [Smyth].

Regarding his inheritance as son of John who held of ‪ Henry IV in chief. The lands and tenements are in the custody of the executors of Thomas, late duke of Exeter , by commission of ‪ Henry IV [CFR 1405–1413, p. 111]. Inform the executors of the forthcoming proof of age.

John ?Rok, 60 and more, swears that Thomas was born at Kendal and baptised in the church of St Trinity there. He was aged 21 and more on 7 October last. Katherine his daughter was baptised on the same day, and she was 21 and more on 7 October last. John Kayrehous , 54 and more, says that his small, black horse threw William his son by the churchyard wall when it saw a girl coming out of the church with a basin, ewer, and white towel after the baptism of Thomas. Thomas de Dokwra , 56 and more, says that John his first-born son was buried at the south door of the church on that day. Robert Lorde , 58 and more, says that Alice his wife carried Thomas to his baptism. Richard Duket , 63 and more, says that Margaret his daughter carried the basin and ewer so that Thomas’s godparents could wash their hands after the baptism. John Ravenesby , 61 and more, carried a lit candle before Thomas to the church. John Skayffe , 52 and more, says that his white mare, caught up in its halter, broke its neck at the door of his house. Thomas Mewbourne , 51 and more, caught two partridges with his hawk and sent them to the mother of Thomas de Par . Robert Garnet , 64 and more, says that John Parker ’s dog bit Peter, son of Robert, in the right shin. Peter was lamed by this. William Godmond , 50 and more, says that Agnes his wife was churched after the birth of Cecily his first-born daughter, who was 21 on 8 September last. William Dawena , 59 and more, built a new house for his oxen and cows to the north of his dwelling in the vill. Robert de Appilby , 64 and more, saw John Henton and Peter Percey leading a red ox by a long rope. The ox threw Peter onto his back by a huge pile of stinking dung.
