Holdings
A messuage and 1/2 virgate in Carlton
which were William Balle ’s, were taken into the hands of ‪Henry IV by William Palmere , then escheator, by virtue of his office, on the promulgation in the county of William’s outlawry for felony, as was found by an inquisition taken ex officio by William Palmere [CIM VII, no. 347]. They are still in those of ‪Henry VI for the same reason. He held the messuage and land on the day of the perpetration of the felony he was supposed to have committed and for which he was therefore outlawed, on the day of the outlawry and long before, in fee tail, namely to himself and the heirs of his body, by enfeoffment of William Balle of Carlton in the parish of Market Bosworth, grandfather of William Balle named in the writ, whose heir the latter was, made at marriage to Agnes daughter of Robert Taillour , for her life after his death, and to the heirs of their bodies. William Balle afterwards married Agnes and they had issue a son, William Balle , and died. William Balle, junior , the son, then entered the messuage and land and was seised by virtue of the gift in tail and had issue William Balle, a son, named in the writ, and died. The messuage and land then descended to William Balle named in the writ, as son and heir... [ms galled] in tail by virtue of the gift. He was seised until the messuage and land were taken into the hands of ‪Henry IV for his outlawry for various felonies and they are still in those of ‪Henry VI for the same reason.
The messuage and land are held of the heirs of Thomas Herre...urt , knight, n754_001 of his manor of... by service of 6d. yearly, annual value 3s.

He died on 15 September 1408. John Balle , who survives, is his [?son or brother ms faint] and next heir, aged 24 years and more.
