He died seised of the manor of Sutton on Trent called ‘Southhall’, with its members, in his demesne as of fee, held of Ralph earl of Westmorland of the honour of Richmond in socage, annual value 60s.

He died on 3 October 1399.n586_002 Bertram his son was his next heir at his death, then aged 4 years and more. Bertram the son died on 27 January 1415 while a minor in ‪Henry V‬ ’s wardship. Bertram his son was his next heir at his death, then aged 1 week and more. Bertram son of Bertram son of Bertram died on 15 June last while a minor in ‪Henry VI’s wardship. Isabel, lately wife of Robert Herbotell, esquire , as sister of Bertram [the grandfather], is the kinswoman and heir of Bertram son of Bertram son of Bertram, and is aged 40 years and more.

Robert Herbotell, esquire , occupied 2/3 manor from his death until 27 January 1415, and took all issues by letters patent of ‪Henry IV [CPR 1401–5, p.255]. Margaret duchess of Clarence subsequently occupied the 2/3 until 15 June last, and took all issues by letters patent of Henry V‬ . Elizabeth widow of Bertram the father, now wife of Thomas Holden , occupied 1/3 manor and took all issues from his deathn586_003 in the name of her dower, and still does so.
