Holdings

He held no lands, tenements, rents or services the day of his forfeiture. By his charter dated at Hatfield, 24 June 1423, and shown to the jurors, and described as John Mortymer, esquire , he granted all his lands, tenements, rents and services which he had in Bishops Hatfield parish and elsewhere in the county, to Henry bishop of Winchester , John Bassyngburne, esquire , William Westyngton, esquire , William Shakevile, esquire , Thomas Hunt of ?Linby, Thomas Grantham, parson of Bramfield church and John Seward , their heirs and assigns. The feoffees were seised on the day of his forfeiture and are still. The lands and tenements contained in the charter comprise the following. Annual values: the messuages, nil; each acre of arable 2d.; each acre of meadow 6d.; and each acre of wood nothing after enclosure.

Hatfield, 5 messuages, 80 a. arable, 10 a. wood and 10 a. meadow called Watership, held of Philip Asshe and John Musele and Christine his wife by service of 12d. at Easter and Michaelmas in equal portions; 8 a. meadow, 9 a. arable, and... a. wood, held of Thomas Barre , son and heir of Thomas Barre, knight , by service of 2s. at...; and 15 a. arable and 8 a. meadow in the same parish and called ‘le Brache’, held of Edward Bensted, knight , by service of ... at the above feasts.
Digswell, a messuage, 50 a. arable and 4 a. wood called ‘Hacches’, held of Joh[n] Pyrean by service of 1/4d. and a clove every Michaelmas.
Bramfield, a messuage called ‘Brantfeld’, 60 a. arable and 5 a. wood, held of the abbot and convent of St Albans by service of 9s. 9d. at the same feasts; and 30 a. arable and 6 a. wood, the residue of the lands and tenements, held of Henry Chaterton and Joan his wife by service of 3s. at the same feasts.

Alice his wife took the issues from the day of his forfeiture.
