He held for life

1/3 manors and 1/3 advowsons of Mere,
and of the inheritance of Maurice Berkley, knight , reversion to the same Maurice. By a fine in 1386 at Westminster [mor. Asc. and afterwards quin. St John Baptist CP 25/1/289/54 no.149], between Roger Caumpeden, clerk , John Hyde, clerk and Edward de Acton , quer. and this Hugh Burnell, knight , and Joyce his wife, deforc., the manors and advowsons were among others granted and surrendered to Hugh and Joyce and her heirs, to hold of the king and his heirs by the services thence owed and accustomed, as is clear more fully in the fine shown to the jurors. Joyce was seised in her demesne as of fee and Hugh of his free tenement.

Joyce died seised in this estate without heirs of her body, and the reversion of the 1/3 part then descended to Maurice Berkley as an heir of Joyce, namely son of Maurice son of Katherine sister of John Botour, knight , father of Joyce.
