Holdings

The

manor of Darlaston with the advowson of the manor church and 12 a. land in Bentley
came into the hands of ‪ Henry V owing to the death of Roger Dorlaston and the minority of his kinswoman and heir, namely [ Alice ] daughter of Thomas his son. Of these,
2/3 manor and land, with the advowson, remain in the hands of ‪ Henry VI , and 1/3 was assigned to Idony, Roger’s widow, who survives [CCR 1419–22, p.83]
. Roger Dorlaston , father of this Roger, was formerly seised of the
manor of Darlaston with the advowson and the 12 a. in Bentley
in his demesne as of fee. He granted these, described as all lands and tenements which he had in Darlaston and Bentley, to William Benteley , Roger Basset, chaplain , John Merneham and Roger Elyngton, chaplain , their heirs and assigns. They were seised in their demesne as of fee, and regranted the
manor, advowson and land,
described as all lands and tenements which they had by gift and grant of Roger the father, to Roger the father and Anne his wife, now deceased, and the heirs of their bodies, remainder to Roger Hillary, knight , now deceased, his heirs and assigns. Roger and Anne were seised in their demesne as of fee tail, to themselves and the heirs of their bodies. Alice daughter of Thomas son of Roger, the son, died while a minor and without heir of her body. Roger the father and Anne died without heirs of their bodies. The kin and heirs of Roger Hillary, knight , are Elizabeth Lady de Clynton , daughter of Elizabeth one of his daughters and heirs; Margery who was the wife of Fratricius Tylney and one of the daughters and heirs of John Rocheford, knight , son of Joan the other daughter and heir of Roger Hillary ; Elizabeth Gibthorp , daughter of John son of Alice second daughter and heir of John Rocheford ; and Margaret Roos , daughter of Joan third daughter and heir of John Rocheford . Elizabeth Lady Clinton is aged 60 years, Margery 30 years, Elizabeth 1 1/2 years and Margaret 6 years.
The 2/3 manor of Darlaston, held of John Sutton, knight , service unknown, annual value 40s., contain 40 a. land, each acre worth 6d. yearly, 10 a. meadow, each acre worth 12d. yearly, and 10s. assize rents. The 2/3 of 12 a. land in Bentley, annual value 6s. 8d., are held of the king in chief by service of as 1/30 knight’s fee.
