He was seised jointly for life with his wife Margaret until her death on 2 June 1421 andof his free tenement until his own death on... [?1422] of the castle, manors and advowson of the church of Braybrooke by a fine levied [quin. East. 1417: CP 25/1/179/ 92, no. 24] between John Gryffyn and Thomas Wydevill , quer., and Nicholas and Margaret, def., reversion to John Wodehous , John Merbury and William Troutbek , esquire s, Robert Holt and Richard Pittes , who survive, and Thomas Byllyng , deceased, for a year, remainder to the right heirs of Richard Gryffyn . Extent of the castle and manors as in 835, except that the 100 a. pasture and the 15 a. meadow are not described as demesne land. The castle, manors and advowson are held of the king in chief of the honor of Berkhamsted by knight service.

Laurence Merbury, knight , is his brother and next heir, aged 40 years and more.
