Holdings

He was seised in his demense as of fee of:the manor of Ashwell Hall in Finchingfield and Great Bardfield. There are in the manor a site, annual value nil, 100 a. arable, annual value 20s., 20 a. wood, annual value nil because not mature enough for felling between John's death and the taking of this inquisition, 4 a. alders, annual value 4d., 6 a. meadow, annual value 5s., ?10 a. pasture, annual value 5s., and 10s. assize rents at Easter and Michaelmas in equal portions. The manor is held of the king in chief by service of providing a wooden `spete' for the king's kitchen on the day of his coronation; a messuage, annual value 12d., and 7 a. arable, annual value 12d., in Great Bardfield, held of the earl of March of his manor of Great Bardfield for 2d. yearly. He held jointly with his wife Isabel, who survives, by grant of Henry Nottesone to them and the heirs of John, 4 cottages in Great Bardfield worth 2s. each yearly and held of the same earl for 6d. yearly. On 30 Sept. 1396 he granted the manors of Laindon and `Sturmynes' to John Fraunceys , who survives, in fee simple. The manor of Laindon, annual value £10, is held by knight service of the countess of Stafford of her manor of Fobbing, and the manor of `Sturmynes', annual value 10 marks, of the bishop of London of his manor of Laindon for 1d. yearly.

He died on 1 May 1422. Margaret wife of John Symound is his daughter and next heir, aged 27 years and more.
