Holdings
No lands or tenements came into the hand of Edward III by reason of the death of William Croucheman or the minority of William Wyncelawe , but 153 a. arable, 4 a. meadow, 1 a. pasture, 3 1/2 a. wood and 8d. rent in Great Sampford, annual value 10s. 9d., came into the hand of Edward III on the death of William Croucheman senior , who held of Joan, daughter and heir of William de Welles and a minor in the wardship of Edward III , by knight service of the manor of Great Sampford .
William Croucheman senior died on 20 June 1351 and because of the minority of his son and heir William the land came into the king's hand. When Joan came of age the same year she and her husband Henry Coggeshale entered the manor but before they were put into possession the younger William Croucheman died and the lands descended to the younger William's daughter and heir Mary. On Mary's death they passed to her son and heir William Wyncelawe , and then to William's daughter Joan , who survives and was aged 8 years on 11 June 1421.
