Writ Head

880 Writ to assign dower ‡ 2 March 1422. [Wymbyssh]. Teste John, duke of Bedford.

William Cheyne has been ordered to take her oath not to marry without royal licence. The escheator of Sussex ordered to assign dower from the lands taken into the king’s hand owing to the death of her husband and the minority of his son and heir John, in presence of the farmers of the lands [CCR 1419-22, p. 191].

Inquisition Head

Sussex. Assignment of dower [indented] in the presence of William Ryman and John Persons , farmers of John Arundell's lands during the minority of his heir. Arundel. 24 Aug. [Wymeldon].

Holdings

Assignment of dower in the following manors: Stansted and Walderton with the forest of Stansted, Up Marden, Woolbeding, Wonworth, Orfold, East Hampnett and Westhampnett with the advowson of the church of Graffham, provided that the heirs of John de Arundell shall have wood from 12 a. of the forest lying south and west of the park of Stansted for the repair and building of the houses of the heirs' tenants in the vill of Westbourne.
