Holdings
By reason of the death of Gilbert Talbot and because of the minority of his daughter and heir Anchoret the manor and hundred of Bampton came into the king's hand; 2/3 remain with the king and 1/3 is held in dower by Gilbert's widow Beatrice, reversion to Anchoret's kinsman and heir John Talbot . The 2/3 manor and hundred are held of the king in chief of the Crown for 1 knight's fee. There are in the 2/3 manor a stone building with granges and other ruinous buildings, annual value nil, 4 carucates, annual value 53s. 4d., 40 a. meadow and pasture, annual value 30s., a water-mill, annual value 40s., and £16 3s. 4d. assize rents from free tenants and tenants at will at Easter and Michaelmas in equal portions. By charter dated 17 Sept. 1413 Gilbert made Thomas Fetiplace steward of the manor and hundred for life at 50s. yearly by fee and gage, and by charter dated 11 July 1414 granted a yearly rent of 10 marks from the manor at Easter and Michaelmas in equal portions to Nicholas Laundels and his wife Eleanor for life.
She died on 13 Dec. last. John Talbot, knight , is her kinsman and heir, aged 30 years and more, i.e. brother of Gilbert father of Anchoret.

For the reasons given in 779 no lands or tenements came into the king's hand, but the advowson of the church of St. Andrew Hubbard in Billingsgate ward, annual value nil except prayers, came into, and remains, in the king's hand. Gilbert held the advowson in his demesne as of fee of the king in free burgage as the entire city of London is held. The church has not become vacant since Gilbert's death.

The 2/3 and 1/3 are held of the king in chief for 1/100 knight's fee, annual value of the 2/3 3s. 4d. For the same reasons the manor of Penyard, which Gilbert also held in his demesne as of fee, came into the king's hand, where 2/3 remain, 1/3 being held in dower by Gilbert's widow Beatrice, reversion as in 779. The manor is held of the king in chief for 1/50 knight's fee. There are in the manor an old tower, annual value nil, and in the 2/3 there are 120 a. wood and underwood worth yearly 6d. an acre.

Beatrice, Gilbert's widow, holds 1/3 in dower, reversion as in 779. The 2/3 are held of the king in chief for £8 yearly paid to the sheriff of Shropshire and there are a capital messuage, 3 demesne carucates worth yearly 10s. each, 160 a. wood and underwood worth yearly 6d. an acre and £6 10s. assize rents at the above terms in equal portions.

The 2/3 and 1/3 are held of Humphrey, duke of Gloucester , of his castle of Devizes for 1/4 knight's fee. There are in the 2/3 66s. 8d. assize rents at the four terms mentioned above in equal portions, 13 a. wood, annual value 4s., 63 a. arable, annual value 15s. 2d., 6 a. meadow and 13 a. several pasture, annual value 26s. 8d. For the same reasons 1/2 manor of Ashton Gifford, which Gilbert held in his demesne as of fee, came into the king's hand, where 2/3 remain, 1/3 being held in dower by Gilbert's widow Beatrice, reversion as in 779. The 2/3 and 1/3 are held of the king in chief for 1/50 knight's fee. There are in the 2/3 35s. assize rents at the four terms mentioned above in equal portions, a meadow, annual value 26s. 8d., 72 a. arable with pasture for sheep, annual value 13s. 4d. By his letters patent dated 17 Sept. 1413 Gilbert granted the office of steward of the manor of Swindon and of the moieties of the manors of Broughton Gifford and Ashton Gifford to Thomas Fetiplace for 30s. yearly.
