Jointly with Joan his wife he held 15s.8d. rent from messuages, lands and services in Berrynarbor, by the grant of John Greynevyle, knight , John Ralegh and Walter Coggan, vicar of Poughill , by their charter shown to the jurors and dated at Whalesborough on 18 Aug. 1401 to hold for the life of Joan.

He died on 10 Jan. last. Thomas his son and heir was aged 13 years on 3 May last.

Holdings

He was seised in demesne as of fee of the manors of Perranuthnoe, Trerose and Halwyn and the advowsons of the churches of St Pieran of Perranuthnoe, St Maugan of Mawgan in Meneage [and St Maunan of Mawnan]. The advowsons of SS Pieran and Maugan pertain to and are parcel of the manor of Perranuthnoe and the advowson of Mawnan pertains to the manor of Trerose. By deed indented shown to the jurors dated at Whalesborough 1 Dec. [last, 1417 he granted the same to John Colshulle], knight, John Arundell son and heir of John Arundell, knight, Geoffrey Seyntaubyn, Henry Foleforde, John But, Thomas Leghe of 'Yalweleghe', John Aps, and Richard Northdon, who survive, for the term of [their lives]. They are seised in demesne as of free tenement, the reversion pertaining to John Whalesbrow and his heirs. John held the manor of Perranthnoe and appurtenant advowsons in reversion of king of his castle of Launceston, of the duchy of Cornwall, [by knight service], worth £20 yearly, and he held the manor of Trerose and appurtenant advowson in free socage of the bishop of Exeter, by rent of 7s, worth £10 yearly. He held the manor of Halwyn in reversion of the said bishop, in free socage, worth 40s. yearly. He was lately seised in demesne as of fee of the manor of Whalesborough. By deed shown to the jurors dated at Whalesborough, 22 Oct. 1403, he granted [the manor to John] Greynevyle, knight, Nicholas Bromforde, Benet de Whalesbreu [vicar of Poundstock], and Walter Cogan vicar of Poughill, for the term of the life of Joan wife of John. They were seised in demesne as of free tenement. [By deed dated Whalesborough, 19 Jan. 1411, Walter granted his estate to John and John, and by deed dated at Whalesborough 22 Jan. 1411, John, Nicholas and Benet made a quitclaim to John and Joan.] John and Joan were seised of the whole manor viz. John in demesne as of fee and Joan in demesne as of [free tenement] and John died seised jointly with Joan who survives. They held the manor of William lord Botreaux, by knight service; it is worth £6 yearly. He was seised in demesne as of fee of the manor of [Lamellion] and by deed shown to the jurors dated [Whalesborough, 11 May 1411, granted it to Robert Trefrydow, Willilam Mayew rector of Perranthnoe, and John Northdoun, for term of Joan’s life, described as all his messuages, lands etc. in 'Raghtre', 'Skywyek', 'Boskarne', ?Trewarveneth, Lamellion, 'Lantyrek>', and 'Chynans'.] By deed shown to the jurors [dated at Whalesborough, 12 Dec. 1411, Robert, William and John granted their estate to John and Joan.] John and Joan were seised of the whole manor viz. John in demesne as of fee and Joan in demesne as of free tenement and John died seised jointly with Joan who survives [one carucate of land excepted]. They held the manor of William, lord Botreaux, in free socage, service unknown; it is worth 40s. yearly exceptions excepted. He was lately seised in demesne as of fee of the manors of Tresidder and Lancarffe. By indented deed shown to the jurors, dated at Whalesborough, 8 Aug. 1401, he granted the same to John Greynevyle, knight, John Ralegh, Geoffrey Seyntabyn, and dom. Walter Cogan vicar of Poughill, described as all his messuages and lands in Tresidder and Lancarffe, for the term of the life of Joan his wife. They were seised in demesne as of free tenement. John, John and Walter by deed shown to the jurors dated at Whalesborough, 18 Aug. 1401, granted the manors, described as above, to John and Joan his wife for the term of the life of Joan, so that they were seised in demesne as of free tenement. Geoffrey by deed shown to the jurors dated at Whalesborough 22 May 1402, released all real and personal actions to John and Joan. John was seised in demesne as of fee and Joan in demesne as of free tenement. John died seised of such estate, excepting three carucates of land in the manor [sic], jointly with Joan, who survives. The manor of Tresidder, exceptions excepted, is held of the earl Marshal, in free socage by rent of 6s. yearly, and is worth, exceptions excepted, £4 yearly. The manor of Lancarffe is held of John Bevyle, in free socage, service unknown, and is worth, exceptions excepted, 20s. yearly. John Whalesbrowe and Joan his wife by deed indented, shown to the jurors, dated 1 July 1416, granted to John Whalesbrowe their son two carucates of land and three parts of a messuage and of 20 a. land in Tresidder and Lamellion, described as all their lands in Tresder and Trewarueneth, and three parts of a tenure which Thomas Clemmou lately held in Raghtre, parcels of the manors of Treseder and Lamelwyn, for the term of his life. He was seised in demene as of free tenement. The carucates and three parts are worth 5m. yearly. By indented deed of the same date shown to the jurors John and Joan granted to Robert Whalesbrowe their son, two carucates of land and a fourth part of a messuage and of 20 a. in Tresidder and Lamellion, described as all their lands in 'Skywyck' [?or Skywyek], 'Boscarne', and 'Chynans', and the fourth part of a tenure in 'Raghtre' lately held by Thomas Clemmou, parcels of the manors of Tresidder and Lamellion, for the term of his life. He was seised in demesne as of free tenement. The carcuates and fourth part are worth 5 marks yearly. [Tenures of these parcels not specified, but presumably as for Tresidder and Lamellion above.]

He died on 10 Jan. last. ?Thomas Whalesbrowe is his son and next heir and was 13 on 3 May last.

The Chancery copy of this inquisition is almost entirely illegible, but the Exchequer version is in reasonable condition. Gaps in the latter supplied from CCR 1413–9, pp.420–2.
