Holdings

He held the castle of Tamworth and the court of Stipershill [as in no. 424].

He held a third part of Middleton, which he purchased from John Hillary , of the college of Tamworth, service unknown. William Boule and Henry Caytewayte , clerks, held the manors of Lea Marston and Stratford by Tamworth, and a third part of Middleton, described as all the lands, tenements, rents and services in Middleton formerly of John Dymmok , and granted them to Baldwin Frevill , Joan his wife, and the heirs of their bodies, and, failing such heirs, to Joyce formerly wife of Baldwin Frevill, knight , for life, and the right heirs of Baldwin Frevill , the grandfather.

The same William Boule and Henry Caytewayte , clerks, gave them also the manor of Wyken by Coventry, except the lands which William de Repyndon , Ralph Baudy , William de Sewale, junior , Richard Benet , John Carter , John Aleynson , William Anable, junior , John Burbage and William Anable, senior , separately held in the same, until the manor of Lea Marston should be quit of a rent of 20 marks which Eleanor de Launde has and takes from it. Whenever it should be freed from the annuity by the death of Eleanor or otherwise the manor of Wyken, except those lands, should remain to Adam de Peshale, knight , and Joyce for the life of Joyce, and they should also have the excepted lands of William de Repyndon and the others named, to Baldwin and Joan and the heirs of their bodies until the manor of Stratford be freed from a rent of 7 marks which Adam de Breton, clerk , has. When it is so freed by the death of Adam de Breton or otherwise, it shall remain, except the above, to Adam and Joyce for her life, and after her death to Baldwin Frevill and his heirs.

Adam de Breton and Eleanor de la Launde are dead. Joan died without heirs of herself and Baldwin. Then Baldwin married Maud, and had a son also called Baldwin and died.

The above manors and third parts should remain to Adam de Peshale, knight , for the life of Joyce, now his wife. John Byttort , Richard Fyton and Henry Standych died. The others granted the manor to Roger de Aston, parson of Weston under Lizard , John Styward and others, their heirs and assigns contrary to the above condition. In virtue of this alienation the king entered by his escheator, in right of the heir of Baldwin, in the king’s ward. It is held of the prior of Coventry , service unknown, annual value 10 marks.
