He held the manor of Weedonhill jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives, by enfeoffment of John Pakenham , Thomas Rastwold , John Wymbervyle, clerk , Peter Wylcombe and John Josep by their indented deed shown to the jurors and dated 1 December 1409, to John and Margaret described [in French] as John Brewys , chevalier, of Sussex, and Margaret his wife and daughter of Thomas Ponynges, Lord de Seynt John , and his heirs by Margaret, remainder to himself and his heirs, the manor described as that which they lately had by gift and grant of the said John Brewys . In the manor there are the following. 200 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 6 a. meadow, each acre worth 2s. yearly; and 150 a. wood, each acre worth if felled 6d. yearly. These are held of the king of his castle of Berkhamstead, of his duchy of Cornwall, in socage by service of suit to the castle court every three weeks and no more. 220 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 10 a. meadow, each acre worth 2s. yearly; and 110 a. wood, each acre worth if felled 6d. yearly. These are held of Richard earl of Oxford , a minor in the king’s wardship, of his manor of Higham, services unknown. 4 cottages, annual value 6s. 8d. and no more, held of Anne countess of Stafford , services unknown. He died on 3 December last. Beatrice lately wife of Hugh Shirley, chevalier , is his sister and next heir because he died without heir by Margaret, and is aged 60 years and more.

West Chiltington, the manor, in which there are the site with buildings, worth nothing yearly; 92 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 52 a. pasture, each acre worth 2d. yearly; a park containing 80 a. land, worth nothing yearly after the enclosure and the maintenance of the beasts of the chase; and 23 a. underwood, each acre worth 1d. yearly.
